Level 2 AutoCAD Training

Aims

This course is aimed at existing AutoCAD and LT users who wish to become more productive. This can be achieved by knowing the best tool for the task, knowing the best way to use the tool and to create new tools more efficiently to accomplish specialised tasks. Our Level 2 CAD course introduces additional commands to those covered in the basic Level 1 course and expands on those commands that the user may already be familiar with.. These commands allow the user to introduce additional customisation and additional flexibility to the method of producing AutoCAD drawings. LT users should note that many commands used in this course are unavailable in AutoCAD LT.

Exceptions
Although an overview of 3D and visualisation is covered the user would not be expected to produce 3D drawings. Macros, AutoLISP, Visual Basic and Object ARX programming is briefly mentioned in the courseware provided but we do not cover this content in the course. For a full list of 3D commands click on the 3D Training course link at the top of this page.

Experience
We will accept people who have used AutoCAD continuously for a year but who have not been on the level  one course. However, Ideally users must have attended an AutoCAD/ LT level 1 course and had a minimum of 6 months continuous experience using AutoCAD / LT since.  If you are in doubt about your suitability please contact us on 01255 688372 when we can make an assessment of your ability. If you know that you may not be suitable and are likely to hold up the class please be fair to other users on the course by attending the level 1 first or a refresher course.

Duration
3 days - An additional "open or ad-hoc" day can be provided for users who wish to practice their own work under  supervision

Location
Clacton-on-Sea, Essex (substantially reduced prices & virtually any date), London and other major East Anglian towns school holiday periods only (on site or hired venue)

Topics

Module 1: Productivity Tools
This is a more in depth review of some of the main techniques used in level 1. It mainly deals with shortcut menus, keyboard options selection techniques and only using what you need in more depth.

Module 2: Advanced Object Types
This module delves deeper into polylines, multilines & regions, how to create, edit and custom them.

Module 3: Advanced Blocks & Attributes
Advanced blocks involve inserting blocks, Multiple blocks, local & global blocks, properties and revisions. Attributes are explained and the module explains how to insert, edit, define & redefine and extract attributes.

Module 4: Referencing & Sharing Information
External referencing, using existing drawings within your current drawing, is explained in detail. The commands that relate to inserting and using graphical images are explained and the AutoCAD collaboration tools that allow use with other users are covered.

Module 5: Layouts & Plotting
A review of layout concepts is followed by how to create, copy and annotate layouts. Custom viewport options are covered and then how these new views/layouts are plotted. Advanced plotting features include how to manage plotters, plotting & publishing to the web, plot style & batch plotting.

Module 6: Drawing Standards & System Setup
The efficiency of a CAD office depends upon the standards it enforces within its drawings. AutoCAD drawing standards allows the standards to be effectively controlled . This module introduces the user to how AutoCAD manages standards, layers & dimensions. .

Module 7: Introduction to Customisation
This module is skimmed over due to time constraints as well as the fact it relates to programming which is covered in more depth in special courses at specialised training centres. We do however show how to customise tool bars, icons and keyboard options

Module 8: Introduction to 3D
We introduce the users to 3D concepts, basic geometry & editing commands, viewing options. We also touch on the concepts of how to add materials, lighting and scenes to make the 3D model more realistic.
